Drinking In Fremantle And Not Hating It

Went out drinking last night with some friends and stumbled across this new place calling itself The East End Bar & Lounge where The Bog used to be. Thought I’d let you know about it in case you’re in the area, as this kind of place is definately to be encouraged.

It’s really nice inside - big old, comfortable chairs and beautiful curtained walls. It’s definately the best looking bar Freo’s had for a while. The soft lighting makes pretty much everyone look sophisticated and elegant, despite some valiant attempts at looking nasty on the part of some patrons.

It helps that the bartenders mix a mean cocktail, though I was having a rare night of drinking beer heteronormative-style on beer last night, and I was a bit disappointed in their selection of brews (I ended up drinking Becks, which is beyond even a desperation beer for me). So long as you’re happy to roll with spirits you should be cool though. It’s all pretty reasonably priced for a club/bar.

The music was a bit shit when we were there - the dj was playing some kind of sped up version of deep house, which was impossible to dance to and kinda boring listening. That being said, I imagine they have a few different dj’s and the atmosphere made up for the tunes anyway. We were in early and the crowd seemed a bit like the kind of folk who would be having drinks before heading to Metros Freo; that will change as word gets out about this place though.  This thing with the Voltaire Twins looks like it will do the trick nicely in a couple of weeks though, so I’ll give it another try then.

It’s quite rad there’s somewhere to drink/dance/etc in Fremantle that doesn’t suck. More of that, please?
