One of my favourite local musical auteurs is Simon Sieradzki, who trades as Airport City Shuffle. He doesn’t play live much at the moment, which is a pity as he’d worked up his local reputation to a really strong point a year or so ago before abruptly stopping. I remember standing at one of their early shows with my old bandmate Mark from Descend Here and both of us saying that his band was pretty much the kind of band we’d like to be in. Eventually when I started this solo act, we played quite a lot of shows together, even playing a track-for-track “vs” show at the Rosemount last year. He was extremely prolific around then, releasing more EP’s and albums than I had time to listen to, but going back over them since has revealed a lot of solid indie-pop gold.
After a break, he appears to be making his way back to the scene, albeit in a somewhat quiet fashion. This is his new video, directed by the lovely chaps at Clo5dimly Productions who also shot my Bash Myself clip (which you can see to the right). I think it’s another step forward for them from the video they did for me. The song itself is a bit twee-ish, so if you can’t appreciate that style of indie it may not be for you. Personally, I enjoy a bit of that stuff as a sometimes food, and I think his voice adds a bit of balance to it. But you know. It’s up to you.
A couple of years ago, I made this remix of their track Let’s Make New Plans. It is still one of my favourite things that I’ve ever made, and I’d like for you to have it. Just click the the downwards arrow on the right hand side of this widget and it’s all yours.
