Richard Hawley Is Better Than You At Singing

I know I seem to be on a chilled out mope-athon in terms of my music selections on here this week. It’s just I’m recording my disco tunes (it’s going really well now, an update on that soon), and I need to listen to other stuff to clear out my head. One of the best people to help with that is Richard Hawley.

I just watched this clip and heard this song for the first time tonight and I was floored. It… it made me feel… feelings… I don’t know how many records this guy sells in reality, but in my imagination, I like to think that there’s a country somewhere that he’s a household name. Over here in sunny Perth, he’s a bit of a cult concern, but he’s one of those musicians that when you play his music to pretty much anyone, they can find something to connect with in it.

I’ve only heard it a couple of times, but I think it’s fair to say it may even be better than my old favourite Richard Hawley tune, The Ocean. Which is a fucking massive call. The video clip for that one is crap, so here’s a live version recorded in october instead. When I think about putting swelling strings into a song, I usually am thinking about this and falling short by a lot.
