I had an absolute blast at One Movement yesterday, running around the city between conference sessions, showcase gigs, local fringe festival shows, afterparties and my own pretty fucking awesome little showcase in a laneway behind King Street.
The non-Me highight of the festival though was Chinese band Super VC, who mixed up western influences like The Beatles and 70’s glam with a Chinese-rock style. This video doesn’t quite convey the full awesomeness of their show - I get the feeling they’ve changed their style quite a lot in the last year. The lead singer was entertaining enough, with his prancing stage presence almost hidden behind his massive overhanging fringe, but the bass guitarist was just plain ham-tastic with his rock moves. He was amazing to watch, playing his bass on every concievable angle and striking some of the most convincing rock poses I’ve ever seen.
Someone needs to bring these guys back to Australia. Preferably on a Chinese rock-only tour with TooKoo (who I missed but were apparently fantastic) and New Pants. Please?
