Found Sound Orchestra

Mash-up guru and my sometime collaborator, team9, has just put out a new record with his project The Found Sound Orchestra. It’s a sample-based record that fuses together some of the wierdest samples around. It sounds like a triangulation of The Avelanches, Lemon Jelly, late ‘90’s chillout compilations and the production techniques of a producer reared on mashups and electro rather than turntablism.

Found Sound OrchestraActually, that’s four things, that’s a square.

But square this is not. Apart from the cover. (See what I did there? Yes, I know. I killed the funny.) It dips in and out of ideas of good and bad taste while staying smooth enough to be played at a cafe.

Anyway, the whole record can be downloaded for free. I suggest zoning out to it on a sunday afternoon with a medicinal gin and tonic. My favourite tracks are Japanese Strawberries and Secrets To A Successful Marriage (Part 2).

Get it at http://www.team9.net.

While you’re there, you may as well pick up a copy of his record from last year, We Don’t Disco; I worked with him on two tracks with a bit of a spy-theme vibe; I’m particularly proud of Lines, which is a song that spewed out of me extremely quickly on guitar and the arrangement he made for it ended up sounding exactly how I wanted it to without sounding anything like what I expected. He also expanded on a remix of Five Times he did for the single, drawing restrained anger out of it rather than my raw, angry approach to it.

Electronic music nerd types will also find remix packs for the above at team9’s site. If you make something, send me a copy and I’ll post it here.
