OK, Me, here’s how it’s going to work; by February next year, you’re going to need to have your second album at least almost finished. No arguments. No more excuses. No more fucking around with new songs or thinking that what you’ve got isn’t ready. If it’s not ready, it’s not gonna be. You’ve got too many songs lined up for this thing anyway. Just lay them down.
…So I’m getting ready to start recording this record. The songwriting has been honed to pretty tight perfection. There’s a bit of lyric cleaning up to be done on a couple of songs, but otherwise it’s looking pretty solid. The main thing will be to do is remix everything so it’s cohesive and interesting for people who might be familiar with what I do. I’m aiming this at the dancefloor. So I’ve got to change things up a bit so that people can dance to everything.
I’ll be laying down vocals this coming week. I doubt many of them will end up as the final takes; it’s more like I’m going in to do some vocal demos so I can look at the way each track is structured and where my voice is sitting at each point in the record. Then I’ll be able to figure out a few other things about how to proceed; if I want to structure the album with segues, have individual tracks or make extended tracks that I can segue together. I also need to figure out if I need any additional instrumentation; I’m leaning towards not using any as I really want this to be about synths and samples, but part of me would like to record some strings and guitars for a couple of things.
Probably before I get to that I’ll need to find me a really good quality reverb to play with on the tracks; I’ve gone between a few different ones but found that for most applications Ableton’s inbuilt reverb has been fine. It’s not right for this record though. I want a nice, deep, warm as fuck, spacious reverb plugin that doesn’t chew up too much memory when I use it. So I’ll have to spend a couple of nights screwing around with reverb sounds. Nerdtastic.
It’s going to be a slow start though. I’ve got remixes for Abbe May and Brash And Sassy that both need finishing, a couple of things that need to be fixed for my live show and this website to fine tune. But at least if I can get the ball rolling, I’ll be on my way to obsessing over this record in no time.
