Laneway! Feb 6! Not Far!
Laneway Festival playing times are out. On one hand, I’m a bit bummed that I’m playing at the same time as Daniel Johnston. On the otherhand, I’M IN THE SAME FUCKING TIMESLOT AS DANIEL JOHNSTON! Even better, I’m programmed between kinda great indie-dance band Hockey and kinda amazing afro-disco kids The Very Best, who would have been the highlight of my festival anyway...
His Schtick Weighs A Ton
Tomorrow I’m going to be having a chat with master self mythologiser Dave Graney. He’s touring Perth in a few weeks’ time, which I’m looking forward to. He’s become more and more idiosyncratic as he’s progressed; this video is for a song that references his own material and history, evoking a thousand late night conversations with drunken, drugged up...
Haiti 2010 Compilation By Monome Community
OK, so I’m posting about Haiti. I know you probably have compassion fatigue. But snap out of it. Besides the fact that I’m about to tell you about something awesome, Haiti is an absolute mess.
This had huge potential to be naff, but it’s not. Monome Community, a collective of people who use an electronic music controller called (fairly obviously) the Monome, has put...
I Was A Male Stripper In A Go-Go Bar
This is what I am talking about when I am talking about gay disco. Too good.
Disco Bunker Selling Fast
Phew, tickets for Tomás Ford’s Disco Bunker are moving faster than a bus trying to keep away from Keanu Reeves. If you’re looking for more info on that, scroll down a couple of posts or head to the Facebook invite. Or just click through to book tickets at Heatseeker.

Belated Southbound Shitdribbling
I promised a post about my adventures at Southbound and failed to deliver. Lame. I can remedy that easily though.
I drove down to Southbound with a couple of my dearest pals, David and Daniel. Daniel is a navy boy so he was ludicrously well organised for the trip. He brought supplies aplenty, meals for all of us for pretty much any time we were hungry and a fuckin’ tent, none of which I had...
Tomás Ford's Disco Bunker // FEB 27
This is something you want to go to, I guarantee it. If you live in Perth, you’ve really got very little excuse not to hang out with me on Feb 27, watching me rock a specially crafted one-off show in the comfort of that grand old dame of Mt Lawley, The Astor Theatre. I’m putting a lot of effort into making sure this is a show to remember, and tickets are going to sell out so book now...
Poorly Spelt Songs Can Still Be Good
DJ Hell’s production style provides a fair amount of inspiration to me; I like the way it is minimal and groove-ridden while still being quite aggressive. Bryan Ferry is like a vocal god to me. I love the idiosyncrasies of my own voice, but if I had to steal another persons’ voice box, it’d be Ferry’s. So this is a good pairing.
Anyway, listen to it. I’ll post...
Bondage
I’m kind of a sucker for James Bond title themes. They’ve been getting a bit shit lately, but up to and including Madonna’s Die Another Day (a track seemingly hated by everyone except me) I dig most of them.
One of my favourites was Sheryl Crow’s Tomorrow Never Dies. Don’t get me wrong, Sheryl Crow is responsible for some truly awful shit. But if you dig...
Airport City Shuffle Are Not Dead
One of my favourite local musical auteurs is Simon Sieradzki, who trades as Airport City Shuffle. He doesn’t play live much at the moment, which is a pity as he’d worked up his local reputation to a really strong point a year or so ago before abruptly stopping. I remember standing at one of their early shows with my old bandmate Mark from Descend Here and both of us saying...

[REC] Slowly, Slowly
Recording has been going well through December. Can’t remember what I told you last time I wrote one of these updates, but I’ve just about finished mixing a track called Six Times, which was going to be the first single but now that it’s done is probably a bit too pussy for that. I want something a bit stronger and more upfront.
A couple of weeks before Christmas, I started to...
